River Wye Fish Eating Bird (FEB) Survey, Saturday 3rd February, 2018

At 9am on Saturday February 3rd 2018, a river-wide cormorant and goosander count will take place on the Wye. This is the second of a number of surveys that the statutory authorities have requested and is being co-ordinated by Chris James, Chairman of Hereford & District AA.

It is important that as many owners and anglers as possible take part so that the river is covered effectively. If you are able to carry out a survey on your fishery (or someone else is on your behalf), please let Chris know in advance on or 07737 684 963.

Please note that the surveys must start at 9am to avoid duplicate counting.

Results of the surveys should then be emailed to Chris, including species of bird and their numbers plus any other details that might be relevant. He will then collate these results and pass them on to the statutory authorities.

Forms required for the day can be downloaded via the links below or requested as Word documents from WUF on 01874 711714.

Thanks very much in advance for your assistance.

Spey Casting Courses on the Upper Wye 2018

Saturday and Sunday 21st & 22nd and 28th & 29th April 2018.
These two separate weekend courses are designed to provide the essential skills in Spey Casting for those who are beginners, improvers or experienced anglers who would like to sharpen their technique. As it is limited to four anglers per weekend with two AAPGAI instructors – Illtyd Griffiths and Jonathan Morris - the course will allow plenty of time for individual tuition during the two days.

We will be casting on two separate beats, one in Boughrood and one outside Builth to allow us to concentrate on casting off both banks (and therefore both shoulders). All aspects of Spey Casting can be covered, depending on individual needs. Suitable tackle is available if required.
Cost of the course is £270 per angler to include soup and sandwiches at lunchtime.

If you would like further details or to book on this course please either telephone Illtyd Griffiths: 01654 781365 or 07974 942853 (email: or Jonathan Morris: 07909 968348
