Catchment Officer Vacancy

Have you got what it takes to be a Catchment Adviser?

Are you a dynamic individual looking for a new challenge? A new project is about to launch in West Wales with two posts available for Catchment advisers to work with farmers and a broad range of project partners to identify and implement changes in land use practices that will have benefits to local water quality and the farm business. We are looking for good communicators with a background in agricultural advice and project delivery. Candidates need to be exceptional self-starters with a passion for conservation of the natural environment, particularly rivers and streams. Catchment Advisers will be able to identify pragmatic and cost-effective solutions to infrastructure and land management issues to protect local water quality without compromising business profitability or efficiency.

Successful candidates will initially be mentored in the Wye & Usk catchments by a team of experienced Catchment Advisers. After this training period the Advisers will carry out 18 months of work in target catchments such as the Teifi & Tywi, under the local management of West Wales Rivers Trust.

Please see the attached PDF for the full job specification.

Spey Casting Courses on the Upper Wye

Saturday and Sunday 22nd & 23rd and 29th & 30th April 2017.
These two separate weekend courses are designed to provide the essential skills in Spey Casting for those who are beginners, improvers or experienced anglers who would like to sharpen their technique. As it is limited to four anglers per weekend with two AAPGAI instructors – Illtyd Griffiths and Jonathan Morris - the course will allow plenty of time for individual tuition during the two days.

We will be casting on two separate beats, one in Boughrood and one outside Builth to allow us to concentrate on casting off both banks (and therefore both shoulders). All aspects of Spey Casting can be covered, depending on individual needs. Suitable tackle is available if required.
Cost of the course is £270 per angler to include soup and sandwiches at lunchtime.

If you would like further details or to book on this course please either telephone Illtyd Griffiths: 01654 781365 or 07974 942853 (email: or Jonathan Morris: 07909 968348

Launch of the Wye & Usk Fundraising Auction

We’re delighted to announce that the Foundation’s first Fundraising Auction was launched at the annual meeting on Friday night. We are now accepting bids for some fantastic lots, ranging from career coaching to stays in wonderful holiday cottages and, of course, plenty of fishing!

The money raised will go towards the Foundation’s Endowment Fund, set up earlier this year to provide long term core funding for the organisation. The Endowment Fund will enable WUF to spend less time and resources on fund raising and more on delivering projects that restore the ecology and fisheries of the Wye and Usk. For more information on the Endowment Fund, please click here.

The bidding closes on 23rd December, in time for delivery of your auction win as a Christmas present!

To view the lots and to make a bid, please click here to go to the Auction of Promises website. You can even use it to donate a lot yourself!

Thank you for taking part and happy bidding!
