On the 2 July 2025 a group of Citizen Scientists, led by Bill Brierley and Martyn Kelly, undertook the RAPPER Algae Assessments on the Gavenny and river Usk at Castle Meadows, Abergavenny. Bill and Martyn have recently created the RAPPER Citizen Science programme, a simplified version of a method that UK environment agencies use. RAPPER can be used alongside chemical and other water quality tests, to build a good picture of the overall health of the river.
