The Wye & Usk foundations has 3 continuously monitoring sondes across the river Usk catchment. These are located on an upper Usk tributary as well as the middle mainstem Usk and a middle Usk tributary. The sondes test a number of parameters at a very high frequency and level of accuracy including temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, nitrate, ph and ammonium. This gives us an independent source of up-to-date environmental data at the 3 sonde locations while also providing comparison, and validation, to the citizen science data the volunteers in our programme are gathering on the same reaches of river as the sondes.
