Wye-P on Arrow project

Funded for one year through the EA’s Water Environment Improvement Grant (WEIF) aimed at improving water quality in the River Wye catchment by promoting sustainable farming practices and providing holistic support to farmers in 2024/2025.

The River Arrow is a high-priority area for biodiversity and salmonoid species, requiring urgent action to improve water quality.

The project focused on the Arrow catchment: –

  • Providing long-term, holistic advice to 30 farmers, assessing and improving farming practices that mitigate diffuse pollution and improve environmental resilience. covering 3051.43 hectares (7,540.25 acres).
  • Fostering community involvement and collaboration to address river pollution and flooding issues, through interaction with local groups, such as the Eardisland Environmental Group, which has strengthened community ties and collective action.

Future Directions and Opportunities

The project highlights the need for continued support and innovative approaches to maximize natural capital opportunities in the Arrow catchment. Temporary closures of funding schemes limited immediate actions, but opportunities for landscape recovery and water management remain with a long-term potential developing a landscape recovery scheme in the Arrow catchment.

A charity concerned with education, restoring habitat, water quality and fisheries.
